In this installment of Fieldnotes, we talk to Dr. David Riep. Dr. Riep is an associate professor in the Department of Art, Art History and Art Museum. We chat about his current project focusing on art, history, genealogy, and land-rights in Southern Africa. We chat about several exhibitions of African art including the “Shattering Perspectives: An Exhibition of African Ceramics” he just wrapped up and the catalogue that he published. We also chat about his recently published book chapter, “Lithoko: Continuity, Change, and the Future of South Sotho Praise Poetry,” in The Epic World. Finally, we chat about his involvement in an ongoing multi-disciplinary project entitled “Africa Meets Africa.”
