Who I Am
Extracurricular: Best PhD Graduate Teaching Assistant – Political Science Department (2024)
PhD Major: Political Science
A Bit About Me
I am a PhD candidate in Political Science specializing in Environmental Politics and Policy. I received my B.A. in Mass Communication from the University of Zambia. I received an M.A. in Media and Communication Science from the Technical University of Ilmenau in Germany and an M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy from Seton Hall University in USA. My long-term career goal is to develop expertise in disaster risk reduction (DRR) in Southern Africa by contributing to the growing body of knowledge and engaging in climate adaptation policy.
What I Hope To Do
My dissertation looks at the politics of disasters and inclusive DRR. With the aim to contribute to the growing body of literature on DRR in Africa, I hope to collaborate with the Center for Environmental Justice (CEJ) Zambia, a non-governmental organization working to promote environmental justice and sustainability. By partnering with the CEJ, I hope to engage with traditional leaders through focus group interviews during the Traditional Leaders Caucus to discuss their role in disaster risk reduction, climate-resilient agriculture production and conservation with the overarching goal to integrate them into DRR strategies and policies to build more resiliency to disasters.
My Personal Thanks
My personal thanks goes to the Africa Center and the scholarship donor for providing me this funding opportunity to cover the cost of my travel to Zambia. I would also like to thank my advisor, Dr. Julia YuJung Lee, for recommending me for this award
