Integrating Cultural Awareness into the Engineering Design Process: Engineering Capstone Experiences in Africa

Join us for this exciting talk on “Integrating Cultural Awareness into the Engineering Design Process: Engineering Capstone Experiences in Africa” on Monday, March 31, in the Lory Student Center (LSC) Room 322 at 4pm MST.
Since the inception of the Mechanical Engineering degree program at UCCS, all students have participated in a capstone experience that involves working through the engineering design process with an external client to solve a real-world problem. Since 2009, one of the options available to students in the capstone program has offered a chance to work on a problem faced by people in other parts of the world, integrating service learning and overtly highlighting the importance of considering the human element when addressing a problem. For the past 5 years, the focus of these projects has been in Uganda, working with two NGOs that operate there: Imagine Her and the Global Livingston Institute
