Africa and Ale

An annual celebration of culture, creativity, and community

Africa & Ale is the flagship annual event of the Africa Center—an afternoon that brings together students, faculty, local partners, and the broader community to celebrate the richness and diversity of African cultures. Hosted in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History, this vibrant gathering takes place at the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art, transforming the museum into a lively space of connection, creativity, and conversation.

As an end-of-year celebration, Africa & Ale honors the accomplishments and ongoing work of African students and scholars at CSU while fostering meaningful connections across campus and beyond.

Celebrating the Africa Center

The Africa Center is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research, education, and engagement focused on Africa. Through events like Africa & Ale, the Center highlights student achievement, supports creative expression, and builds bridges between the university and the wider community.

A Unique Museum Experience

During the event, museum galleries typically remain open, allowing guests to explore the African Collection and other exhibitions on view. The collection features both historical and contemporary works by artists from across the continent, offering a powerful visual complement to the evening’s festivities.
